The truck hauling cotton was nearly upside down, slightly submerged in the water below - on the south side. The truck was heading west if I recall. I could see the undercarriage of the truck - transmission, tires, etc. It was one of the first accidents I ever saw.

It seemed at the time the bridge didn't collapse completely, but more or less a truck wheel slipped off the narrow raised wooden lanes and went into the water, causing irreparable damage to an ancient bridge that needed demolishing, anyway. I remember it being a bridge that had with two raised wooden "lanes" running the length where the wheels should go. It was a scary bridge to cross in a pickup truck. I can't imagine driving that cotton across.

Of course 40+ years hence, and experiencing this as a child may have clouded my recollection. I remember walking on the bridge, looking left straight down into the water, seeing the truck. It wasn't a long drop. I was told the driver was ok.

My dad and I couldn't cross because of the accident. If it's the one you are talking about it was in the early-to-mid 1970s.

Funny thing is I've made a point to never cross that bridge since that day. It must have left an impression.R.B.https://www.blogger.com/profile/15857403825797273469noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1623239633916945671.post-58800327078867771362016-02-25T13:40:11.201-08:002016-02-25T13:40:11.201-08:00Huston Cobb jr is my Grandfather!....Charles Cobb,...Huston Cobb jr is my Grandfather!....Charles Cobb, son of huston cobb jr, is my father.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05223315164371328281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1623239633916945671.post-67512312960296456832013-07-17T12:24:36.137-07:002013-07-17T12:24:36.137-07:00Butch,
